The LC's are not stiff springs. The reason they call for the additional weight in the rear is to "tame" the amount of lift you'll get from them. Without the hitch and some extra weight in the rear, expect ~4.5" from the LC's. Mine have settled from 4.25" to about 3.75 now...and that's after a year of use and abuse.
You'll find that the LC's are one of the softest riding and best articulating springs you can put on your Runner. The OME's on the other hand are very stiff!
