$7500 is extreme for a rebuild... so by those numbers, it is not worth doing a rebuild.
Get some other mechanic's opinions in your area. Could you also define "5th cylinder blew" please? Is that your opinion or the mechanics?
- If you love the 4Runner, swapping in a 3.4 is the best thing to do.
- If you like the 4Runner, swapping in a 3.0 in good condition is the best thing to do.
- If you can't do either of the above yourself, and have to pay for labor, then just driving the 4Runner as it is and shopping for a new one is the best thing to do.
Who knows... maybe you'll loose one more cylinder and be down to a 4Banger. Those are way more reliable anyway.
