transmissions

i have a 1980 4x4 pickup...it has the factory 20R and 4spd...my 4spd just recently went to crap on me...(jumps in and out of 1st gear when taking off)..its had problems for a while..but never this bad...so its time to replace it...so...my question is...will a 5spd fit in it no problem...or are there like...clearance problems...and is the 5spd much longer than the 4spd...or would i have to get another 4spd...and does the 5spd bolt up.....if it doesnt...is there an adapter made for it...or what about one of the tacoma 5spds.....or better yet...any toyota tranny that will bolt up...thanks in advance
