Actually bigger is not better. If the pipe is too big, the exhaust gasses expand and cool too quickly; making it harder to "push" the gasses out of the pipe. What you want is an ideal size and Toyota had this down for a relatively stock engine (2.25). Now, if you are going to go true-dual, you will want to size that carefully as well. Without having the chart in front of me, I believe 1.75 or 2" is ideal on a true-dual (with a 3.4L-equipped) engine. Don't quote me on that though.
