FSM is from Toyota. A Haynes manual attempts to cover LOTS of areas in less space and just doesn't quite do the same job.
Actually, the guages didn't change at all over the later 80s, I spent a good bit of time troubleshooting a few months ago. Its a straighforward exchange...
To have so many issues with your system, there must have been something catastrophic done to that junkyard cluster. Those movements in there are pretty fragile...
